Things In Motion Tend To Stay In Motion

One of the things you learn as you train and compete in strength events is: sometimes it’s moving you just don’t know it yet.

For example, if you’re pulling a plane, or some similarly large vehicle you first take all the slack out of the rope. Then you begin to apply progressively more tension and at the start signal you give it everything you’ve got, only to see nothing happen… At first. But you don’t let up because nothing happens, there are things happening that you just can’t see yet. You focus intensely on the image you have seen a thousand times in your head of this thing moving. You keep driving as hard as you can pushing your feet though the crust of the Earth, transferring all that power up through your body into your hands and pull. You tell yourself you will die before you stop. You create stories, dark stories, in your head of what is going to happen if you don’t get this done…

And then it moves. Not enough for anyone else to know but you know. It is moving. So you dig even deeper and drive even harder and soon it moves enough for onlookers to notice. Now let’s be real, it’s not even moving 1 mph but, it’s moving. So you keep digging and driving and ignoring the pain and soon it’s moving well enough that “all” you have to do is keep it moving. Those that have competed in strength sports know what I’m talking about.

For some of us, we’re working on some life changes. We need to get moving in a better direction. We’re driving as hard as we can but still not seeing much if any change. Keep driving. Keep digging. It’s happening you just can’t see it yet. This is how momentum is built. Stack those daily wins through the non-negotiables, and then keep stacking them. In the beginning you might be the only one to feel the change because it’s imperceptible to anyone other than you. That’s okay. Don’t pay any mind to anyone that doubts you. Dig deeper. Drive harder. Ignore the pain. Because once you get it moving enough that others begin to notice your doubters will become your believers. And that’s okay, you weren’t doing it for them any way so whether they believe or not is their problem not yours.

Once you get some movement then you’ll get some momentum. Now “all” you have to do is keep it moving but in reality that’s easy. Things in motion tend to stay in motion so never let up.
