Everything Changes As Soon As I Change

Jan 02, 2025

Marcel Proust’s assertion, “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes,” originates from his work La Prisonnière, the fifth volume of In Search of Lost Time. His words challenge us to rethink how we approach discovery—not as a matter of changing our external circumstances, but by transforming our internal perspective. Once I change, my perspective changes. Once my perspective changes, everything changes.

This principle applies not only to how we view the world but also to how we see ourselves. Too often, we are trapped by the limitations of our own perceptions, blind to the potential within us. To truly grow, we must find a way to see ourselves with new eyes—eyes that recognize the strengths, possibilities, and opportunities that were once hidden in plain sight. Stripping away our old limiting beliefs and seeing our true potential.

This transformation begins when we challenge old narratives and beliefs about who we are. It requires us to shed self-doubt and habitual thinking, opening ourselves to new perspectives on what we can achieve. When we have a limiting thought, we have to ask ourselves; is that true? If it’s true, then let’s get to work and change it. However, if it’s not true then why are we keeping it around? When we learn to look at ourselves differently, we uncover abilities, passions, and paths that we couldn’t previously imagine.

This is the essence of personal transformation: we don’t need the world to change. We change ourselves and then we’ll start seeing the world, and ourselves, differently.
